Here are some places to visit and some things to do when staying in the area.

 

Ashbourne: - A magnificent market town on the edge of the Peak District National Park that offers a variety of specialist shops and a market held every Thursday and Saturday.  It is also home to the game of Royal Shrovetide Football which is held every Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday.

PeakdistrictPeak District: - The UK’s first national park established in the 1950s.  It has some of the most beautiful and peaceful scenery in the British Isles and is home to some fantastic areas for walking, cycling, caving and climbing.  It is a tranquil place away from the busy ways of modern day life. 

To enter the Peak District National Park, head north on the A515, signposted to Buxton.

Dovedale:- Owned by the National Trust this area of natural beauty attracts millions of visitors each year.  Dovedale was created by the River Dove cutting through the hillside and creating a gorge. This picturesque place is perfect for walking and relaxing.

Peakdistrict

Chatsworth:- Home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire and one of the most popular historic houses and estates in Britain.  The estate offers a variety of activities such as farmyard and farm shop, a fantastically well maintained garden and park, a top quality restaurant and of course Chatsworth House itself.  This attraction offers something for everyone.

Alton Towers:- The No.1 theme park in the UK, home to some of the best rollercoaster rides in Europe.  Alton Towers’ Splash Landings is also a fantastic day out if you like getting wet!

Tissington Trail

The Tissington Trail:- A former railway between Ashbourne and Buxton that is now used as cycle path across Derbyshire.  It can also be used to get onto the High Peak Trail which is a little more challenging.  This is also another excellent way to see the Derbyshire countryside by foot. 

 

Carsington Water

Carsington Water:- Whether you’re into water sports, fishing, cycling or just relaxing by the waterside this man-made reservoir has it all.  A great family day out.
